Dorothy Mae Jones Elliott, 89, formerly of 126 Rocklawn Avenue, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Martinsville where she had been a resident since January, 2011.
She was born in Danville on July 10, 1921, the daughter of the late Rev. James E. Jones, Sr., and Gracie Allen Jones. She was married to Forrest L. Elliott, Sr., who predeceased her on March 1, 1996.
Mrs. Elliott had lived most of her life in the Danville area. She was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She and her family owned and operated Elliott's Diner on North Main Street for twenty four years.
She is survived by a son, Forrest L. Elliott, Jr. and his wife, Penny, of Orange County, VA; Three brothers, Leonard Jones of Appomattox, VA, Bobby Jones and his wife, Claudia, of Martinsville, VA, and Enoch Jones and his wife, Gladys, of Taylor Lake Village, TX; One sister, Jeanette Cocke of Chesapeake, VA.; Three Grandchildren, Clifton Ellis Elliott of Richmond, VA, Keith Curly and his wife Carol of Fraser, Michigan, and Erika Curly, also of Fraser, Michigan. Other survivors include two sisters-in-law, Mary Taylor Jones, of Danville and Shirley Jones of Virginia Beach, VA. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, James E. Jones, Jr.,and Donald D. Jones, and one sister, Ann Elizabeth Stone.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elliott will be held Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel,with the Rev. Myron Bruce officiating. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday, June 30, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Barker Funeral Home Chapel on North Main Street.
