Raymond Joseph of Provincetown died at Seashore Point in Provincetown on Friday June 24, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 1, 1925, he was the son of the late Alfred and Mary Joseph. He was 85 years old. He attended Provincetown schools and enlisted in the Coast Guard at the age of 17. After being discharged from the Coast Guard, on July 16, 1945 he lived in Dorchester with his first wife Dorothea (Meads) Joseph who died in 1991. While living in Dorchester he worked at Atamian Ford in Boston, until his retirement at age 59. Following the death of his wife, he returned to his native Provincetown. He worked part time at two of Provincetown's former food providers, the A&P, currently the Stop and Shop and Silva's Seafood, currently Victor's restaurant. It was back in Provincetown that he fell in love with Cynthia Cook whom he married on February 4, 1995. Ray stopped working completely in 2000. Among his enjoyments was playing Cribbage, especially with his late father in law and good friend, John Cook
Besides his wife Cynthia Joseph, he is survived by his daughter Rachel Porter of Conway, NH, his grandson Jamie Porter of Conway and his granddaughter Melanie Porter of Worcester. He also leaves his special pal, Mollie his dog. He was the brother of the late Matthew, Alfred Jr. and Martin Joseph.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church 11 Prince St. Provincetown on Tuesday morning at 11:00am Visiting hours were Monday from 4:00-7:00pm at the Gately – McHoul Funeral Home Provincetown.
