Obituary

William J.L. Kennedy died on June 24th at St. George Village in Roswell, GA at age 88. Born September 22, 1922 in Toronto, Canada, he was a long time resident of Winchester. He is survived by his beloved wife Marie (Konicek), four children, Kathleen Eisenhardt of Palo Alto. CA, William Jr. of Roswell, GA, Michael of Columbia, MD and Elizabeth Fahey of Conyers, GA as well as eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Bill had a successful career as a nuclear engineer at Stone & Webster Engineering of Boston where he rose to Vice President and Chief Nuclear Engineer. A pioneer in the nuclear power industry, he worked on the design and construction of the first civilian nuclear power plant at Shippingport, PA. He went on to work on the design and construction of many early nuclear power plants as an engineer and for many years as a project manager for several power plants including the Yankee plants at Haddam, CT, Rowe, MA and Wiscasset, ME. He served as an overseer of the Tufts University School of Engineering and an active member of the American Nuclear Society. Bill was a member of the Winchester Boat Club where he sailed Turnabouts and Snipes, He was also an avid curler at the Winchester Country Club. After retirement, he was the President of the Jenks Center and launched their computer lab. An electrical engineering graduate of Purdue University and Campion High School, he served in the Canadian Army in World War II.
The funeral service will be on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell, GA. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. The Graveside Service will be on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 10:30 AM at the Wildwood Cemetery in Winchester, MA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Jenks Center/Winchester Seniors Association 109 Skillings Rd. Winchester, MA 01890.
