Obituary

Nora Saunders Walker, age 90, formerly a resident of Holiday Village, died Friday, June 24, 2011 in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, after a 14 month decline in health.

She was born March 10, 1921 in Stratford Hall, Virginia, the daughter of Blanch Saunders, and had lived most of her life in Danville where she worked at Dan River, Inc. in the weave room for over 30 years. Her husband, John W. Walker, Sr., predeceased her in February, 1973. Mrs. Walker was an active member of Holland Road Baptist Church for 50 years.

Survivors include one daughter: Carolyn W. Chilton and her husband Lee of Danville; one son: John W. Walker, Jr. and his wife Toni of Dry Fork; four granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren; two nieces.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one brother, Willie Tate, and one sister, Margaret Jenkins.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. James Mayes will be held on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Holland Road Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service. At other times, they will be at the home of her daughter, Carolyn Chilton.
