Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Arthur R. Tucker, 68, of Lanesville, died Tuesday night, June 21, 2011 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers with his wife and best friend of thirty-one years, Joan Reynolds by his side.
Born in Gloucester on January 28, 1943, he was raised by his beloved aunt, the late Olivia Bowers.
A U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, he entered in August of 1962 and served aboard the USS Ingraham as a machinist mate third class, having been honorably discharged in August of 1965.
Upon his return, Arthur was employed at the former Thurston’s Car Repair Shop. He later owned the Gateway Lounge and Cape Ann Security, working with his beloved dog, Adam, by his side. For twenty-one years, he had owned and operated Lane’s Cove Market.
He loved animals and enjoyed traveling and hunting throughout the United States and Canada.
In addition to his wife of nineteen years, he is survived by kitties, BooBoo and Baby; two sisters, Barbara Snare of Gloucester and Linda, wife of David Mason of Danvers, a brother, Kenneth, husband of Wendy Tucker of Essex, his mother-in-law, Mary Sullivan and her children, Mary Reynolds, Tom, husband of Lisa Reynolds, Jacqueline, wife of John Phinney, Patti, wife of Will Philbrick, Laverne, wife of Peter Saputo, Shawn, husband of Terry Reynolds; two sons, Arthur Tucker, Jr. and Robert Tucker, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was also predeceased by his mother and stepfather, Lena (Santos) and Bud Sweet; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jim Kennedy; and Olivia’s sons, Robert Bowers, who was the first Gloucester resident to be killed in the Korean War, and Richard Santos.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday morning in the Our Lady of Good Voyage Church at 9:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Monday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Following cremation, interment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 260 Main St., Gloucester, MA 01930.
