Col.(R) Dennis T. Kane, A.R.N.G.

...Army Reserve National Guard, and M.D.C. Watershed Engineer; 67

BILLERICA - Col. (R) Dennis T. Kane, A.R.N.G., age 67, died Thursday morning, Feb. 5, at hishome after a courageous one year battle with cancer. He was husband of Roberta C. (Flucker)Kane, with whom he had celebrated a 41st wedding anniversary this past Sept. 8th.

He was born in Boston, Sept. 1, 1936, a son of the late Atty. Timothy J. and Ruth E. (Feeney)Kane. He was raised in Somerville and Medford and was graduated from Malden Catholic HighSchool. He lived in Wilmington before moving to Billerica 33 years ago.

He enlisted as a private and became a full Colonel, including service in the 101st Combat Engineer,the 187th Infantry Battalion, and the G-2 Intelligence Branch of the 26th “Yankee” Division. Hewas a graduate of the Army Engineer Officers School, Advanced Course, and the Army GeneralStaff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. He was a former instructor at the Tactical Officers atthe Massachusetts Military Academy as Camp Curtis Guild in Wakefield, and CompanyCommander of the “Historical Units of Military Command.”

Concurrently, while serving in the Army, he became the Director of Engineering and Constructionfor the Metropolitan District Commission.

He served as Past President of the Billerica Community Center Ski Club, was active in the BoyScouts Troop 11, St. Andrews Church in Billerica, was a member of the Association of StateDam Safety Officials, a member of the Woburn Sportsmen Association, and a communicant of St.Theresa’s Church in Billerica.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Maj. MC, U.S. Army, Shannon A.Heroux, M.D. and her husband David Heroux of Manhatten, KS; a son, Joshua T. Kane ofBillerica; a brother and two sisters-in-law, Paul M. and his wife Jeanne (Gage) Kane ofWilmington, Norma (Molina) Kane of Roswell, NM; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Louise(Flucker) and Paul Gearty of Tewksbury; an aunt, Agnes Taylor of San Francisco, CA, and manynieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

He was also brother of the late Joseph A. Kane.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, Feb. 9, in St. Theresa’s Church, Boston Rd. Billerica Interment with Army Honors was in Tewksbury cemetery.
