Obituary

Joseph Ferreira, 88 of Freetown died June 18, 2011 at Rhode Island Veterans Home after a long illness.
He was the husband of the late Aline G. (Zussy) Ferreira.
Born in Lowell, MA, the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Jardin) Ferreira, he lived in Freetown most of his life.
He was formerly employed as a custodian at New Bedford High School until his retirement.
Mr. Ferreira served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon with 2 bronze service stars, the Purple Heart, and the World War II Victory medal.
Survivors include a son, Paul Ferreira of California; 2 daughters, Nancy Ferria of Wyoming, RI and Jeanne Safioleas of New Bedford; a brother, Manuel Ferreira of California; 5 sisters, Albertina Puente of New Bedford, Constance Little of Arizona, Celeste Ribeiro and Dolores Santos, both of Dartmouth, Deolinda Palmer of California; 5 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the father of the late Richard Ferreira and Robert Ferreira, Sr. and the brother of the late Mary Ferreira.
Funeral from the the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford Saturday, June 25th at 8 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Julie Billiart Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Rhode Island Veteran's Home, 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol, RI 02809.
