Jack Andrew Dishman, of 404 Tamworth Drive, Danville, died Monday, June 20, 2011 at his residence. He had been in declining health for the past year.
Born June 2, 1923 in the Brosville community of Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late Andrew Lewis Dishman and Rosa Ann Wilson Dishman. He lived most of his life in Danville and was the Postmaster for the Keeling Post Office until his retirement. His wife, Gladie Ferris Dishman, predeceased him.
Mr. Dishman was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served during WWII.
Survivors include three grandchildren: Dennis A. Dishman, Jr. of Danville, David A. Dishman and his wife Angel of Danville, Melinda Dishman of High Point, NC; three grandchildren: Amber Dishman, Gabriella Dishman, and Joshua Dishman, all of Danville; one brother, Larry Lewis Dishman of Tampa, FL; two nieces: Brenda Nelson and Linda Schuler. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by one son, Dennis Andrew Dishman, Sr., and one sister, Catherine Dishman.
Graveside funeral services officiated by Rev. Larry Ferrell will be held Friday, June 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in Highland Burial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 23, 2011 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Swicegood Funeral Home.
