TEWKSBURY - Nicholas John Gangemi, age 32, a former high school and college Hockey goaltender, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, June 18, from an apparent heart attack during the night. He had returned to Tewksbury from N.C. to attend the wedding of his mother and step-father on Friday night.
He was born in Winchester, September 27, 1978, a son of Christine Stavros and Daniel J. Gangemi. He was raised in Tewksbury, and was active in youth sports, and especially youth hockey. He went on to become the Varsity Goaltender for the Tewksbury Redmen before his T.M.H.S. Class of 1996 graduation. He went on to Fitchburg State where he became the Goaltender for the Fitchburg Falcons, before his 2000 graduation.
He was currently working as a sales Representative for the Davenport Landscaping Company in Carey, N.C.
Besides his mother, Christine and her husband Neil Topping of Tewksbury, and his father Daniel and his wife Joyce (Demmons) Gangemi of Apex, N.C., he is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel C. Gangemi and his wife Keri (Reid) of Tewksbury and Brian M. Gangemi and his wife Allyson (Ferro) of Andover; a sister, Diana H. Cabral and her husband Michael of Tewksbury; two nieces, Avary and Elena Gangemi of Andover; his maternal grandmother, Helen Stavros of Stoneham; and several aunts and uncles; and many cousins.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, June 24 in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. Memorials to Tewksbury Youth Hockey, P.O. Box 694, Tewksbury, MA 01876, will be appreciated.
