Obituary

Leslie Rivers, 89, of Sandown, NH died Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH . Mr. Rivers was born on June 2, 1922 in Birmingham, England, a son of the late Albert H. and Ada (Horton) Rivers. He served as a Petty Officer in the Royal Navy during World War II. Since 1975, he has resided in Sandown after moving from England. He was employed as a steelworker for many years for Process Engineering Inc. and was a member of the Boilermakers Union Local 752, Kentucky. Mr. Rivers was a past member of St. Mark's Lodge #44 F & AM, Derry. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping and music. He also enjoyed going for motorcycle rides on his son's Harley Davidson.
He is survived by a daughter, Lynda Jackson and her husband Richard of New Durham, NH, a son, James L. Rivers and his wife Rose of Sandown, five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, one sister, Beatrice of England, also several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of over 60 years, Beatrice M. Rivers, on June 18, 2008.
Following cremation, a memorial service was held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at 1:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch Street, Derry. Family and friends gathered at the funeral home from 12:30pm - 1:30pm prior to the service.
