Methuen, Ma. – Sr. Cecile Nadeau, 83, died Saturday morning June 18, 2011 at the Ste. Claire Residence.
Known in religious life as Sister Marie Ste. Francois-Xavier, was born in Biddeford, Maine, on November 2, 1927. She was the 9th child of the late Napoleon Nadeau and Isabelle (Masse).
Sr. Cecile received her elementary and secondary education in Saint Andre School in Biddeford, Maine, and in Coaticook, in Canada. She entered the Congregation of the Presentation of Mary Sisters at Hudson, NH, July 1949 where she later pronounced her religious vows on February 2nd, 1952. Then, proceeding her studies, she obtained her CCD Certificate in Portland, Maine and her B.E.D. at Rivier College, in Nashua, NH.
During her 59 years at Presentation of Mary, she taught in various schools to the youth in the states of Maine and Massachusetts. She served as a CCD coordinator in 3 parishes and helped in many community chores and as Local Superior.
In 1999, Sister Cecile retired at the Ste. Claire Residence in Methuen, MA. She is survived by her brother, Rudolph (Rudy) Nadeau, two sisters, Claire Dutil, Francois Nadeau, and several nieces and nephews. Sister Cecile was predeceased by 4 sisters (2 of which were Presentation of Mary Sisters ) and 4 brothers.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in the Presentation of Mary Chapel in Methuen with burial to follow in the Presentation of Mary Cemetery.
Friends may call on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Ste. Claire Residence 209 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
