Agnes E. Kull, CPA

Worcester - Agnes E. (Schlemminger) Kull, 73, passed away on June 16, 2011, at UMASS-University Campus. She leaves two daughters, Karin A. Fitch and her significant other Lawrence Urbano of Shrewsbury and Tara S. Roy of Northborough; a sister, Renate H. and her husband Henry A. Weber; two grandchildren, Sabrina A. Roy, Ross E. Fitch and Lawrence’s children Nicholas and Sarah. She also found great pleasure over the years to be called “Gram” by Emily and Elizabeth Johnson; her former sons-in-law, Philip L. Roy, Jr., of Rutland and Eric J. Fitch of Shrewsbury; a niece, Monica R. and her husband Vasilios Sahinis and their daughter Alyssa of Worcester; and her extended family of more then 25 years Marilyn Levitsky and her children Robin, Eric and Keith. She was predeceased by a sister, Edeltraut C. Abdella .

Agnes was born in Mariampol, Lithuania, daughter of Otto and Herta E. (Kirstein) Schlemminger. She immigrated to the U.S. in 1952 with her family at the age of 15. After graduating from Commerce High School, Agnes started at the firm now known as Greenberg, Rosenblatt, Kull, and Bitsoli PC as a secretary, she continued her education and graduated from New England School of Accounting becoming a CPA in 1964 at a time when few women even entered the field. In 1972, she became the first woman partner in the firm, and was instrumental in growing the firm into one of the oldest and largest, independent accounting firms in Worcester. Her specialty and passion was estate planning. She recently celebrated her 50th anniversary with the firm and at her death she served as the firm's Chairman of the Board. Agnes was a leader among and inspiration to so many people especially women accountants.

Agnes held numerous positions with local non profit and charitable institutions. She was a member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Treasurer of the Worcester Regional Research Bureau and Bancroft School, Worcester; Trustee and Treasurer of Music Worcester, Inc., a member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Finance Committee Chairman of the Worcester Art Museum, and Treasurer and Board of Directors for UMASS Memorial Foundation. In addition, she was the former chairman of the Massachusetts Board of Public Accountancy; past Treasurer and Board member of the YWCA of Central MA, United Way of Central MA and Memorial Hospital, as well as a past investment committee member of Greater Worcester Community Foundation, and a past board member of the American Cancer Society. In 1990, Ms. Kull received public service awards from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of CPAs. Ms. Kull was the recipient of the 1996 Katharine F. Erskine Award in the Business/Law category. Most recently she was awarded the Robert W. Stoddard '23 Award for outstanding community service by the Bancroft School.

Although dedicated to her professional career and volunteer efforts, Agnes enjoyed many other activities with friends and family. Whether it was traveling abroad with her friend Tay Ann Jay, having an enjoyable dinner and girls night out (GNO) with Barbara Greenberg, Hellen Koskinas,, Jenique LeBlond, Patricia Bartram, Mary Myers and until the time of her death Lois Green. However her most special moments were time spent with her children and grandchildren on family vacations or the gathering at Friday night dinners.


Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster Street. Burial will follow in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bancroft School, 110 Shore Drive, Worcester, MA 01605, Music Worcester, 323 Main Street, Worcester, MA 01608, UMass Memorial Foundation, 333 South Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545, or donations may be made in her name to the charity of your choice.
