Obituary

In loving memory of Maria Koulopoulos(76),who passed away peaceful on June 16, 2011, surrounded by the loving embrace of her family.

Maria was the youngest of six children, born and raised on the beautiful Greek island of Cephalonia where she attended grade school and then moved to Athens to finish the girls high school with honors, lived through the Greek Occupation and the Great Depression. She immigrated to the United States in 1957 where she soon married her sweetheart Michael, from Athens Greece, with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Together they raised a family, built two businesses, and traveled the world. She had a great love of gardening and cooking, was an avid seamstress from a very early age, with hundreds of outfits that she designed for herself and her family. Later in life she also became an accomplished artist in oils, with dozens of original impressionist paintings which adorn her Andover home. She was a faithful and dedicated member of her church where she volunteered for the Greek Philoptohos.

Maria was the daughter of the late Angelica and Nicholas Divaris, and sister to Damaskini, Tasia, Titika, Bob, and Gerasimos. She is survived by her devoted husband Michael Koulopoulos, adoring sons Thomas and Nicholas, her loving daughters' in law Debbie Koulopoulos and Moira Koulopoulos, and her cherished grandchildren Michael, Mia, Sam, Adam, and Olivia.

She is remembered by her family as a person of extraordinary love, amazing strength and indelible hope who always saw the best in life and never failed to smile through even the most difficult times. Her bright spirit was an inspiration to everyone who knew her and lives on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren.

Friends are invited to visit at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen between the hours of 5-8PM on Monday the 20th of June to pay their respects and to celebrate Maria's life.

An Orthodox service will be conducted on Tuesday at 12 o’clock in Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church located on Chandler Road in Andover on June 21, 2011 followed immediately by a burial service at the West Parish Cemetery in Andover.

The family requests all donations be sent to the people who provided wonderful care for Maria in her time of need at Kaplan Family House Hospice, 78 Liberty Street, Danvers MA.01923

May her light shine for us brightly in Heaven that we may find our way to her warm embrace once again, and until that time comes let it be a beacon of love for our family and for all who knew her.
