Harold E. “Hank” Rogers of Plymouth, 88, June 13th after a short illness. He leaves the love of his life, Marilyn (Meserve) Rogers of Plymouth after 65 years of marriage. He was the loving father of Judith Schiff of Jamaica Plain and Lynette and husband Blaise Stapleton of Marstons Mills and was predeceased by his son Steven Emerson Rogers. He was the brother of the late Dunham Rogers. He also leaves 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Hank was born in Plymouth to Rodman and Helen Rogers and attended Plymouth schools, lettering in football, basketball and baseball in high school. He attended Admiral Billard Academy and then Boston University where he received a BA in education. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Air Corps as a navigator during World War II. He began teaching in Royal Oak, Michigan and subsequently Guilford, Maine. He then returned to Plymouth to teach physical education and coach basketball for the next 25 years. He also coached track and cross-country. Hank was inducted into the High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 1986 as a Coach who never had a losing season in 27 years of coaching with a record of 403 wins and 125 losses, won 21 championships or titles and qualified for the Eastern MA Tech Tournament for 20 of the 25 years in Plymouth. Hank also had a great love of golf and was a life member of Plymouth Country Club, where he played with his brother Dunham in many tournaments the pair were a very competitive team, with Hank being a great putter.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 373 Court St, (Rt 3A) N. Plymouth on Friday June 17, from 5 – 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the Church of the Pilgrimage, Town Square, Plymouth on Saturday June 18 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Chiltonville Cemetery.
