Melvin Jackson Chandler, Sr., age 79, died Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at the Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley, MS. He was born in Pine Valley, MS on March 3, 1932 to the late Melvin F. and Jeanie Shephard Chandler. Melvin served in the US Army during the Korean War. He graduated from Northwest Community College, the University of Mississippi and Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He was a Mason and a retired Baptist minister. Melvin loved eating out and socializing with his family and friends, and he loved playing with his 16 month old grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Melvin is survived by two daughters, Martha (Bruce) Allen of Oxford, MS and Linda (Robert) McCullough of Paris, MS; two sons, David (Jennifer) Chandler of Water Valley, MS and Jacky (Pam) Chandler of Batesville, MS; two brothers, Clifton (Sue) Chandler of Sumner, MS and Clyde Herman (Barbara) Chandler of Longview, TX; eleven grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Kate Williford, Blanche Johnson and Jenny Mae Chandler; and two brothers, Johnny Chandler and Francis Chandler.
