Obituary

TEWKSBURY: Charles L. “Charlie” Malatesta, Sr., age 83, a longtime Tewksbury resident, died Monday, February 2, 2004 at home following a lengthy illness.

He was the husband of Marion C. (Basset) Malatesta who died April 2, 1992.

Born in Somerville on February 25, 1920, he was the son of the late Anthony R. and Sadie (White) Malatesta.

Mr. Malatesta was raised in Somerville and Wilmington.

He attended Wilmington schools.

Mr. Malatesta served during World War II in the U.S. Army with Battery C 384th Field Artillery Battalion. During his military service he participated in the Battles and campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded several decorations including the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Bronze Star Medal.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the former Woburn Degreasing Company. He previously worked for the B&M Railroad Company.

He resided in Tewksbury since 1954 and attended the Tewksbury United Methodist Church.

Mr. Malatesta enjoyed gardening, raking leaves and caring for his lawn.

He is survived by 1 daughter; Marion “Betty” Pelletier of Nashua, NH; 1 son; Charles L. Malatesta, Jr. of Deltona, FL; 1 brother; Walter E. Malatesta and his wife Celina (MacDonald) of Wilmington; 9 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. Mr. Malatesta was the brother of the late Albert H. and Robert A. Malatesta.

Calling hours Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery.
