Joan C. (Sweet) Whitney, 77, of Natick, died June 9, 2011 after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Waltham, MA, February 12, 1934, the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (Langley) Sweet. Joan was the wife of the late John A. “Jack” Whitney, with whom she shared 26 years of marriage until his death in 1981. She and Jack shared a love for family, friends and a wonderful sense of humor. Joan was considered the life of the party and brought joy to everyone around her. Even after losing her husband, she continued to share that sense of humor and caring. She enjoyed reading, yard sales, watching the Patriots, spending time with her family and friends and especially enjoyed visits to her brother’s home in York, Maine. Joan loved to shop. She worked her entire life and after 20 years of service, retired from Sun Life of Canada in 1997.
She was the devoted mother of Katherine Kacavich and her husband Bill of Natick, Michele Whitney and her husband Paul Zonghi of Mendon, Joan Harris and her former husband Stan both of Natick, John Whitney and his wife Kim of Natick and Julie Whitney-Blair and her husband Glenn of Framingham. She is also survived by her brothers, Frederick Sweet and his wife Marjorie of York, Maine and William Sweet of Waltham; 16 grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan was predeceased by her brother, Timothy Sweet, sister, Mary Jacqueline Bauer, and son-in-law, Louis Belmonte.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Joan’s funeral service on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 9AM from the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street (at Natick Common) Natick. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Linus Church, 119 Hartford Street, Natick at 10AM. Burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 5-8PM.
