Obituary

James P. Akins Jr. passed away on June 9, 2011. He was 80 years old.

Born in Newton, James was a 38-year veteran of the Newton Police Department and a recipient of the Purple Heart having served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He loved listening to Frank Sinatra and was an avid fan.

James was the son of the late James and Madeline (O’Neil) Akins. He was the loving brother of Mary Akins of West Dennis and Charles Akins and his wife Shirley of Mashpee. James was the dear uncle of Charles Akins of Medway, Richard Akins of Manchester, NH and the late Thomas Akins. He is also survived by 6 great nieces, 2 great nephews and his extended family at Tremont Rehab. and Skilled Care Center in Wareham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 573 Washington Street, Newton on Tuesday, June 14th at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the Mass from 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Waltham.
