James Pritchett Austin, 92, of Blairs, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at the VA Hospital in Salem.
Born June 27, 1918 in Callands, he was the son of the late Robert Lee Austin and Ann Elizabeth Wells Austin. He was married to Ileen Austin who predeceased him. He was a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church; he was a member of the American Legion Post 325 for over 34 years; he was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII and he had worked as a mechanic for Blackwell Motor Company for many years.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathy Elmore and her husband, Roger, of Blairs.
Graveside services for Mr. Austin will be held Monday, June 13, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Burial Park with Pastor Danny Davis officiating. Military Honors will be given by the American Legion Dan River Post 1097. The family will receive friends Sunday, June 12, 2011 from 6-8:00 p.m. at Barker Funeral Home Chapel.
