Obituary

WORCESTER-Jovan Tonevski, 87, of Worcester passed away peacefully at home on June 6th surrounded by his loving family. His wife, Marija (Sekulov) Tonevski died in 2008. He leaves two daughters, Niki Chevrevski and her husband, Alex of Boylston and Ruli “Zaharia” Trajanovski and her husband, Dobre of Wells, ME; two sons, Leo Tonevski and his wife, Tina of Holden and George Tonevski of Worcester; a sister, Avgula of Bitola, Macedonia; ten grandchildren, three great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews of Bitola, Macedonia.

Jovan was born in Magarevo, Macedonia, the son of Donka and Leonida Tonevski. He emigrated to the United States with his family in 1970. He worked for Table Talk Pie Company, retiring in 1985. He was a religious man and was a longtime member of St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church, St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, St. Jovan and St. Dimitrija Orthodox Church of Magarevo. He also spoke four languages and was interested in real estate, walking to the park and being around his family. He donated money to various church organizations in Macedonia as well as the United States. He was very generous to his family and it will not be forgotten. He will be gratefully missed by his loving family. He will be eternally grateful for the around the clock care his three grandchildren: Leo, Jessica and Melissa provided him since being stricken ill last summer.

The funeral is Friday, June 10th with a service at 11:00 AM in St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday, June 9th from 6:00 until 8:00 PM with a Trisagion Service at 6:30 PM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 34 Gold Street, Shrewsbury, MA 01545.
