Marion E. Andrews-Lopez, 98

Marion E. Andrews-Lopez, 98, of Whitestone, New York and a native of Norton, passed away peacefully on Monday June 6, 2011 at Emeritus at Plymouth Beach in Plymouth.
Born in Norton, MA on March 6, 1913, she was a loving daughter of the late George E. and Ora A. (Greene) Andrews.
Marion grew up and was educated in Norton. She was a graduate of the Worcester Museum of Art School and the MA College of Art in Boston where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree.
When younger, Marion worked at the former L.G. Balfour Co. in Attleboro as a Calligrapher, until she moved to New York City, where she worked and lived for 70 years and was employed by Geyers Studio’s also as a Calligrapher. She continued her art education and art experimenting throughout her life.
Marion received her pilots license in 1955 and belonged to the Ninety-Nines, Inc. International Association of Women Pilots, where she flew in the Transcontinental Powder Puff Derbies.
She was commissioned by the U.S. Navy for a series of paintings of the Blue Angels and was listed in many Who’s Who Encyclopedia’s. Her art specialties included Calligraphy, Gilding and Watercolors.
She is survived by her dear sister Grace L. Shaw of Sandwich as well as 2 nieces, 2 grand nieces, 1 grand nephew, and 1 great grand niece and 1 great grand nephew.
Private funeral services were held on Saturday June 11th at the Crane Cemetery in Norton. A memorial service will be held at later date to be announced in New York City.
