Halifax – Allen “Al” Flanagan, 91 years old, died peacefully in his home on the 5th of June with family by his side. Al is survived by his loving wife, Gilda Flanagan whom he has been married to for over 40 years.
Devoted to his family, he is survived by his sons – Allen M. Flanagan (Donna), William E. Russell (Joanne), and Robert F. Russell, his daughters Elizabeth P. Staples (Arthur), Edith N. Suntjens (Richard), Martha A. Doherty (James) and Kathryn A. Roche (Richard) as well as fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and countless friends her considered family. He is predeceased by his first wife, Priscilla Hatch Flanagan, infant daughter Priscilla Flanagan, his brothers Joseph, Thomas, and David and his sister Edith.
Residing in Halifax for the past 40 years, Al had many near and dear loved ones. His mother, Matilda Flanagan, gave him the nickname “Sunny” for his sunny disposition, as a loving father and grandfather he was known to many as “Gramps”, “Papa” and “Dad”.
Al had a great love and passion for books, gardening, diners, antiques and more than anything else, sharing time with cherished friends and family. He worked hard and truly was a “jack of all trades”. He owned Flanagan Real Estate, an auction house, antique shops, and could often be found traveling all throughout New England with his brother, David Flanagan, doing odd jobs and hunting for antiques. He was a member of the Halifax Congregational Church and the Halifax Historical Society,
Relative and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours Wednesday June 8 from 4-8 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman, followed by an 11 AM funeral service on Thursday June 9 also in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel.
