Madeline M. O'Hearn
...Center School Secretary, age 95
TEWKSBURY - Madeline M. (Harhen) O'Hearn, age 95 fell asleep in this world peacefully, Saturday, June 4th after entering Merrimack Valley Hospice House following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late John J. O'Hearn who died in 1991.
She was born in Cambridge, April 14, 1916, the eldest daughter of the late Francis and Bridget (Brennan) Harhen. She was sister to the late Kay Collins, Mary McInnis, Robert Harhen, Joseph Haren, Francis Harhen . She was raised in Somerville, attending St. Joseph's School , then matriculated to Fisher Jr. College.
She moved her family to Tewksbury in 1952. She was an active member of the St. William's Parish family and was among the hundreds of young families who raised funds and oversaw the construction of the Convent, the School and the Rectory in the St. William's building complex. She was a member of St. William's Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She was very active in the Tewksbury Senior Center and was a member of the Golden Age Club.
She worked for General Motors before taking the position of School Secretary at the Center School in Tewksbury. She retired after thirteen years of service.. She scribed the Official Tewksbury Town Meeting or record for many years in the sixties and seventies.
She also served a Cub Scout Den Mother for Troop 47 while raising her family.
She is survived by a son and a daughter-in-law, Lawrence P. and Annmarie (Mulligan) O'Hearn of Westford, MA. two daughter and sons-in-law, Lynn (Marilyn) and Paul Murphy of Tewksbury, Kathryn and Chester Sawicki of Merrimac, MA; a daughter-in -law, Suzanne (Grabau) O'Hearn, of Plymouth, MA, who was the wife of the late Jack O'Hearn. She had nine grandchildren; Erin, Michael, Ryan, David, Jessica, Madison, Caleigh, Denali and Michaela, nine great grandchildren, a devoted nephew, Edward Collins of Tewskbury, MA and many other nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Richard M. O'Hearn and John(Jack) J. O'Hearn, Jr.; and grandmother of the late Jonathan Thorburne.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, June 8, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Donations in her name to the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, 360 North Ave Haverhill, MA 01830, will be appreciated.
