Obituary

SALEM- Andrew Malionek 87 years, of Salem, husband of the late Rita C. (Kulakowski) Malionek, died Thursday, January 29, 2004, at the Montserrat Nursing and Rehabilitation of Beverly.

Mr. Malionek was born November 24, 1916 in Salem son of the late Paul and Tekla (Szczepaniak) Malionek. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a lifelong resident of the city.During WWII, he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army and was attached to the Personnel Section II GO #5 and was awarded the American Theater Campaign Ribbon.

Mr. Malionek was the owner of Andy’s Barber Shop in Salem for 25 years until his retirement in 1978. Following his retirement he returned to the work force as a custodian at Salem State College for 10 years and then as a security guard for 5 years at the Essex Museum in Salem until 1997. He was a member of the Polish Falcons Nest 188, and the PLAV Post #55 both in Salem and the AARP.

He is survived by a daughter, Andrea F. Lausier of Salem; 2 sons and their wives, Ronald A. and Marybeth Malionek of Danvers, Wayne P. and Liz Malionek of Salem; 6 brothers, Henry Malionek of Hyde Park, Frank Malionek , Richard Malionek, Joseph Malionek, Louis Malionek and Stanley Malionek all of Salem; 3 sisters, Clara T. Flowers, Theresa Jaworski both of Salem and Mary McHugh of Peabody; 10 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Sara, Michael, Kaitlyn, James, Peter, Renee, Brittney, Kala and Teghan. He was also predeceased by 4 brothers, Vincent, John, Chester and Adolph Malionek and his fiancé Hilda Barry.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, February 3, 2004, at 8 a.m. from the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 - 8 p.m. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem.
