New Bedford – William Campbell Thompson, Jr., 80, of Acushnet passed away on May 22, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of Rita (Costa) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson was born in New Bedford, son of the late William C., Sr. and Zylpha (Wilson) Thompson, and resided in the greater New Bedford area all of his life. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford. He worked as a self-employed carpenter for over 40 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved his dog, Casey.
In addition to his widow, he is survived by a son: William Campbell Thompson III and his wife Cynthia of Acushnet; a daughter: Sandra E. McClellan and her husband David of Ogdensburg, NJ; a sister: Rita Perry and her husband David of Rochester; 3 brothers: Robert Thompson of Fairhaven, John Thompson of Osterville, MA and Henry Thompson of S. Dartmouth; 3 grandchildren: Melissa Sue Thompson, William Campbell Thompson IV and Katherine Elizabeth McClellan; and several nieces & nephews.

Funeral will be from the Kirby Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary’s Church, New Bedford at 9:00 A.M.
Interment in Acushnet Cemetery, Acushnet.
