Obituary

Norman F. Rose, 79, a lifelong resident of Truro passed away peacefully on May 19, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Dolores M. “Sis” (Mooney) Rose with whom he shared 52 years of marriage.

The son of the late Austin L. and Helen (Snow) Rose, Norman was a member of the Provincetown High School Class of 1949. After graduation he served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. A well known entrepreneur, Norman owned and operated several seasonal businesses on the Outer Cape including Rosie's Roost Hot Dog Stand at Corn Hill Beach in Truro, The Dairy King in Truro, the Truro Laundromat in Truro, and Norm Rose's Lower Cape Ice in Provincetown. He was also employed for many years at Mooney Fuel and Grain Company in Wellfleet and Cape Cod Oil in Provincetown. Norman was dedicated to serving his community and church. He was an active member of the Provincetown Lions Club in which he served as a past King Lion and was also named a Melvin Jones Fellow by Lions Club International. He served on the Truro School Committee for many years, was a committee member of the Boy Scouts Troop 85, and served on the Board of Directors of Seamen's Bank. The majority of Norman's service efforts were focused on the Christian Union Church in North Truro where he presently was the Head Usher and Moderator. During his tenure as Moderator he was instrumental in overseeing numerous capital improvement projects in the church including the installation of an elevator and new heating and air conditioning system.

Above all else, Norman will be remembered as a dedicated and loyal family man and friend to many many people.

In addition to his beloved wife, Norman is survived by his devoted son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Karen Rose of Wilton, NY and Truro; his cherished grandchildren, Shannon and Aidan; his dear brother Elmer Rose of Ft. Worth, TX; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Austin L. “Ozzie” Rose, Jr. and George Rose.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, May 22, 2011 from 4-8 PM in the Christian Union Church, 27 Shore Rd. North Truro. A funeral service will be held on Monday, May 23, 2011 at 11:00 AM in St. Peter the Apostle Church, 11 Prince St. Provincetown. Private burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Truro will be held at a later date. Those wishing to remember Norman may do so through memorial donations to the Christian Union Church, P.O. Box 187, N.
