Mrs. Billie Jean (Stanley) Jiménez

Augusta, GA – Mrs. Billie Jean (Stanley) Jiménez, age 60, went to join God’s family in Heaven on May 17, 2011 at Trinity Hospital after an 18 month battle with cancer.

Billie was born on March 11, 1951 in Augusta, GA to the late Walter G. Stanley, Jr. and the late Sarah Elizabeth (Daniel) Stanley. She was the granddaughter of James and Ina Grace Lassiter of Newton County and Walter G. and Eva Stanley of Camak, GA.

She grew up in Augusta and Martinez, GA. She attended Wilkerson Gardens School and Evans High School and graduated with honors with the Class of 1969.

She attended Augusta State University and received the Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Education in 1973. She taught Senior English in Richmond County for 35 years and was selected Star Teacher by her students repeatedly. She received congratulatory letters from College Professors for the level of preparation her students demonstrated in college. Her love and devotion to her students was impressive by any standard. Billie possessed a tremendous work ethic, was as good a mother as can be imagined and was known to be quite witty and be a clear thinker and had extensive knowledge of literature and authors. She particularly enjoyed visiting the homesteads of British and American authors.

She was married to Mr. Jorge E. Jiménez on September 11, 1972 by Father Simmons at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Augusta, GA.

Mrs. Jiménez is survived by her spouse, Eng. Jorge E. Jiménez; her son, Alejandro Barth Jiménez, a senior at Augusta State University; her sister, Jacqueline Ann Blankenship; her brother, Walter G. Stanley III and Marsha Kay (Testino); her stepsisters: Joann Parrish (Billy), Polly Black (Carlton); her stepbrother, Jimmy Cartledge (Gena); also by her cousins: George Ray Lybrand, Melinda and Susan Cowan, Bill, Michael, and Mark Daniel; her nieces and nephews: Marc Blankenship (Charlene) and Abigail Jennifer Marie Blankenship; Beth (Blankenship) Guidroz (Perry) and her son Timothy Scott, Allison Nicole Stanley.

In addition, she is survived by her father-in-law, Mr. Idelfonso E. Jiménez; her eldest brother-in-law: Ramon A. Jiménez and his sons, Richard James (Elizabeth), Raymond Patrick, Michael Ramon, John Thomas, and daughter, Wendy Lynn Gilbert; and his grandchildren: Robert Lance, Zachary and James Jiménez, and Mitchell and Gauge Gilbert; also her youngest brother-in-law, Joaquin Alberto Jiménez (Sherrian Justice) and their children: Alberto Manuel, Tara Bianca and Geoffrey; and their grandchildren, Andrew, Ariana Rose, and Kaila.

She was preceded by her uncles: Paul Pickett of Newton Co. and Billy Daniel of Lithonia, GA; her aunts: Frances Cowen of Decatur, GA and Edna (Stanley) Lybrand. She was a member of the Stanley and Ansley Family Reunions.

Billie is also survived by lifelong friends: Bunch (Russell) Macdonald, Seweyn Cumming, Alex (Paulos) Turner, Brenda Bryant and Lena Lane.

The family wants to thank the doctors and staff at the MCG Cancer Center for their dedication and affection, particularly Dr. Ghamande.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Elder Max Hicks officiating and speaker Dr. Walter Reeves. Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bob Steed, Dave Drown, Mike Daniel, Walter West, Scott Hawkins, and David Smith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Partners at ZEL Engineers, Stacey Gordon, Ken Wardenski, and Wes Byne.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to GHSU Cancer Center, 1120 15th Street, Rm CN2101, Augusta, GA 30912.
