Obituary

Robert Morgan Tate, age 52, of 17296 Martinsville Highway, Axton, died Saturday, May 14, 2011 in Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for five years.

Born June 5,1958 in Danville, he was the son of the late Wilford Ingram and Margaret Goble Minter. He spent most of his life in the Axton community and was retired from Dan River, Inc. Mr. Tate was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include one daughter: Valerie Michelle Tate of Ringgold; three sisters: Brenda Manning and Bertha Manning, both of Axton, and Sheila Kilpatrick of Danville; three grandchildren: Courtney Pickral, Christian Snead, Cameron Snead; his fiancée: Kathy Worley of the residence. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one son, Rocky Morgan Tate; one brother: Bobby Lee Tate.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Roger Ewing will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, May 16, 2011 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. At other times, they will be at the home of his daughter, Valerie Michelle Tate, 1600 Kentuck Church Road, Lot 31, Ringgold, and at the home of Amy Manning, 339 Centerville Road, Axton.
