William Taylor Flippin

FLIPPIN SILOAM – William Taylor Flippin, 81, of Siloam, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was born September 10, 1929 in Surry County to the late William Homer and Ella Reid Flippin. He was a strong-principled person.

Mr. Flippin was well known and highly respected within the community. He was a life-long farmer who got his start in tobacco and later was among the first in the area to transition to poultry. Taylor was an avid golfer and loved to play with family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving are: Carol Venable Flippin, his devout wife of 56 years; three sons: Keith Flippin (fiancée Glenda) of Siloam, Tony Flippin (Diane) of Yadkinville, and Jay Flippin (Kim) of Winston Salem. Five grandchildren: Erik Flippin (Kristen) of Pikeville, NC; Joseph Flippin of Chevy Chase, MD; Kevin Flippin (Casie) of Oceanside, CA; Matthew Flippin of Boone; and Benjamin Flippin of Oneonta, AL. A sister, Pat Cheadle, of Winston-Salem; three brothers: Jarvis Flippin (Judy) of Oak Ridge; Tex Flippin (Barbara) of Jonesboro, GA; and Laymond Flippin of Winston Salem.

Before passing, Mr. Flippin was able to view photographs of his great-grandchild, Lily Caroline, born May 9, 2011 to Erik and Kristen of Pikeville.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Cox Needham Funeral Home, Pilot Mountain, NC. A graveside service will be conducted at Siloam Baptist Church, Sunday, May 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Faw officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Siloam Baptist Church Building Fund 6909 Siloam Rd, Siloam, NC 27047.
