James Samuel “Jim” Adkins, age 71, of 401 Swain Drive, Danville, died at his residence on Thursday, May 12, 2011.
Born June 25, 1939 in Pittsylvania County, he was the son of the late O. Z. Adkins and Grace Doss Mitchell. He was predeceased by his wife Faye Hayden Adkins. Mr. Adkins was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of Oak Ridge Christian Church in Museville. Jim worked for a number of years as a car salesman for Barkhouser Motors.
He is survived by his daughter: Lisa M. Layne of Allentown, Pennsylvania; two brothers: Wayne Adkins and his wife Celia of Danville, Barry Adkins, also of Danville; his fiancée: Shelia Shomali of Danville; four grandchildren: Will Cassell, Caitlin Layne, Parker Layne, and Madison Watson; one greatgranddaughter: Serenity Cassell.
Graveside funeral services officiated by Rev. Daryl Joyce will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in Highland Burial Park. The family will be at the residence, 401 Swain Drive, Danville.
