Obituary

Edith Gertrude "Sis" Kelley, 97, of Norwell, formerly of Hingham, passed away on Monday, April 25th, 2011 at Norwell Knoll Nursing Home. She was born in Dorchester and graduated from Sargeant College where she majored in Physical Education and eventually attained her certificate as a physical therapist. Most of her career as a physical therapist was spent at Carney Hospital in Dorchester where she was rehab director for many years. She treated her patients with kindness and compassion and was dubbed the dean of the "Edith Kelley School of Pleasantry". After retirement, Sis enjoyed working around her home in Hingham and travelling to Sunapee, NH.

Sis had a quick wit, a wonderful sense of humor and took friendship very seriously going to great lengths to maintain those friendships over her lifetime. She maintained close friendships with some of the "girls" she grew up with in Dorchester on Melville Ave. and also enjoyed her yearly reunions at Christmas time with her "Troop 10" friends she had known since they were girl scouts. Sis was a true and devoted friend who could be depended upon to give wise and honest advice and guidance.

When she moved to Norwell Knoll, she would visit the other residents and tell them a joke or funny story and became known as the "mayor" of the Knoll. She was a kind, honest lady and a wonderful friend. She will be missed by all her loved her, but she left all of us with wonderful memories.

Sis was the aunt of Janice B. Fairhurst and Gordon M. Kelley both of Naples, FL, Wayne B. Kelley of Wayland and Bonnie Belmonte of Malden. Also survived by grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her 5 brothers; Edward, Russell, Loran, Harvey and Stuart Kelley.

A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, May 18th at 1 PM at the Blue Hill Cemetery, 700 West St., Braintree.
