Evans, GA – Agustin (Gus) E. Velez, 71, husband of Celia Velez, entered into rest on Saturday, May 7, 2011.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd Chapel.
Gus retired from the United States Army after 23 years of service. He was a proud veteran and loved his country. Gus was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, along with many other medals throughout his career. After retirement, Gus worked as General Manager for IAP formerly Johnson Controls at Ft. Gordon. He enjoyed spending time at the lake where he would often fish. Gus loved being with his family and friends as well as his beloved cats. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Gus truly loved life.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his three sons, Agustin E. Velez, Jr. of San Pedro, CA, Eddie Velez and wife Connie of Belmont, NC, Mike Velez and wife Ginny of Greenwood, SC, one daughter, Elizabeth Cunningham of New York, NY, two brothers, Marcos R. Velez-Cruz and Hector Velez-Cruz both of FL, one sister, Vanessa Velez-Cruz of Macon, GA, six grandchildren, Amber S. Velez and Gussie Velez both of Greenwood, SC, Rachel Velez and Jacob Velez both of San Pedro, CA, Jake Robinson and Caydence Robinson both of Belmont, NC, niece, Nellimar Velez-Green, and nephew, Marcos Velez-Green.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank Dr. Stulberger, Dr. Smith, Dr. Coleman, Dr. Mulloy, Dr. Duncan, and Dr. Jackson for all of the care that was given to Gus.
