Ben Shuman 90 of Chelsea, Ma. died peacefully on 5/9/2011 at New Bridge on the Charles. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle & friend.
Ben was born in Everett, and resided in Chelsea all of his life. He attended the Chelsea school system and was a graduate of Chelsea High School Class of 1939. Shortly after graduation, he served in the United States Army in World War II. He was a Staff Sergeant in Military Intelligence. After the war he received the Bronze Star, Victory Medal, American Campaign Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and a Sharp Shooter Rifle Combat Infantry Badge. After the war, Benny worked as a salesman of office equipment. Ben was an active volunteer at the Florence Cohen Estates, where he was known as “Bingo Ben”. He loved his family, going to Suffolk Downs to watch horse racing, the beach and cooking. It would be impossible not to be affected by Ben’s vibrant personality, sense of humor, kind heart and generosity which he displayed until his final day. He lived a simple life but was one of the richest men in the Joys of Life.

Ben was the beloved husband of the late Annette Meyers Shuman who passed away in 2000. He was the son of the late Harry & Fannie Fishman. He was the devoted father of Maureen Bach and her husband Gary of Westborough and Jeffrey Shuman of Bellingham. Ben was the dear brother of the late Paul Shuman and Evelyn Lilly. He was the loving grandfather of Rachel and Matthew Shuman. He was the devoted uncle of several nieces and nephews. A special thank you to his nephew Attorney Earle Lilly of Houston, TX for his dedication and love, which added years to Ben’s life.
