Gerald C. Toft, 75, of Washington, passed away at 8:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at his son’s home in Washington.
Jerry was born on October 5, 1935 in Peoria to Arthur and Dorothy Rusk Toft.
Among those surviving are two sons, Jerry and his wife, Shannon, who was Gerald’s caregiver in the last months, and Peter Toft, all of Washington; two daughters, Christine Jowers of Shelbyville, IL and Rachel Toft of Fall River, MA; three brothers, Ronald (Glenna) Toft of Medfordville, OR, Norman (Elsa) Toft and Richard Toft, both of Washington; one sister, Judy Darling of Arizona; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Jerry had been a truck driver for more than 30 years prior to his retirement in 1996 from Speedy Delivery in Peoria.
He was one of the founders of the Sunnyland Old Farts Club, a member of the German Society in Peoria and a member of Teamsters Local #627.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Mason-White Funeral Home with Pastor Ed Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.
