Mr. Wiley Wayne Witherspoon, age 70, of Statesville, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011 at Gordon Hospice House of Statesville. He was born on March 25, 1941 in Rowan County to the late Edward and Virginia Anderson Witherspoon. Mr. Witherspoon worked in construction and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Witherspoon is survived by one son, Wayne Witherspoon of Wilmington; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melissa Witherspoon of Charlotte and Teresa and Philip Fulp of King; five grandchildren, Joshua Witherspoon, Ashlee Britt, Jason Britt, Levi Tulbert and Drake Tulbert; two great grandsons, Sawyer and Christian Tulbert; two sisters, Delores Hunt and Sue Dieffenderfer and one special pet which was his best friend, BooBoo. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Heather Witherspoon; three brothers, Wade Witherspoon, Paul Witherspoon and Bill Smith; and one sister, Jane Gatton. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Yadkin Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Bobby Eases officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 till 2:00 PM prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
