Obituary

Joseph Alberski, 92, of Dartmouth died Wednesday April 27, 2011 at Sacred Heart Home. He was the husband of the late Gertrude (Fratus) Alberski, who passed away on December 18, 2010.

Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Stanley and Eva (Grabiec) Alberski, he lived in Dartmouth for many years.

Mr. Alberski was the owner and operator of the Atlantic Service Station on Dartmouth Street for many years.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army with the 809th Engineer Combat Battalion, and participated in the Battles of Sicily, Naples-Foggia, and Rome-Arno. He was a recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign ribbon, the American Defense Service medal, the Good Conduct medal and the World War II Victory medal.

He was a member of the Star in the East Lodge, A.F. & A.M., the Paskamansett Lodge A.F. & A.M., the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Southeastern Massachusetts, and the Polish-American World War Veterans Association. He was a Past President of the New Bedford Boys Club Alumni Association.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Toth and her husband Clarence of Somerset; a granddaughter, Andrea Couto; three great-grandchildren, James, Tara, and Austin; and several nieces.

He was the brother of the late Stella Allen and Edward Alberski.

Funeral Services will be private. Burial with military honors will be in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
