Obituary

Ruth Mobley Odum, 83, of Ocilla, Georgia died Monday, April 25, 2011 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Ocilla United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Brenton, Elder Mickey Harris and Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.

Mrs. Odum was born February 23, 1928 in Berrien County to the late Warren and Leila Griffin Mobley. The last of 12 children, she lived in Irwin County most of her life, graduating from Ocilla High School in 1945 as Salutatorian. After high school, she moved to Atlanta, where she worked for Georgia Tech, the State Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Ivan Allen. Mrs. Odum moved back to Irwin County and retired after 28 years of service from the Irwin County ASCS office. She was a former employee of the Paulk Funeral Home and catered parties, business events and weddings in the community for 20 years. Mrs. Odum was an active member of Spring Hill Primitive Baptist Church and a former member of the Ocilla United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Sherri & Phil Donehoo of Dahlonega, Nancy & John Gibbs and Lisa & Walter Hudson of Ocilla; grandchildren: Stephen Donehoo, Elisabeth Browning, Blair French, Lane French, Evan Gibbs, Stephanie Giddens and Lauren Howell; 8 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
