Melba Owens Thompson, 86, of Fitzgerald, Georgia died Monday, April 25, 2011, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M. Wednesday, April 27, at the Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Fisher and Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be held 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Mrs. Thompson was born September 12, 1924 in Barney, Georgia to the late Joe and Annie Mae Cameron Owens. She was a homemaker who lived in Fitzgerald most of her life. Mrs. Thompson was a member of Crossview Baptist Church.
Mrs. Thompson is survived by her sons and a daughter-in-law: Allen Turner of Fitzgerald, Gerald & Freida Odum of Savannah, Larry Odum of Saint Matthews, SC and Robert Odum of Savannah; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; sisters: Eunice Robinson of Lake Wales, FL, Betty Gauthreaux, Margaret Mitchell and Peggy Stegall all of Fitzgerald as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Odum and Jack Thompson, and three brothers, Grady Lee “Jack” Owens, Darrell Owens and D.C. Owens.
