“Anything I have no control over and can’t help anyway or anyhow, I don’t let it worry me nor do I get real excited.” Mrs. Evelyn Frances Edwards Jones, age 94, of Pinnacle, passed away on Sunday, Easter morning, April 24, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born on November 1, 1916, in Stokes County, to the late David Franklin and Florence Smith Edwards. Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Ray Jones; brother, Homer Edwards; and sister, Elsie Mabe. Mrs. Jones accomplished a lot in her life that was marked by her strength, faith, and humorous quips. She was the oldest high school graduate at Surry Community College where she secretly went at age 74 to obtain her GED. She retired at age 80 from her full-time job and celebrated with her first four-wheeler ride. Mrs. Jones was involved with such organizations as the Pinnacle Fire Auxiliary, membership in Chestnut Grove UMC for 94 years, UMW, journaling, caring for the infirmed and volunteering in nursing homes where she was older than most residents. Throughout all this she continued to mow her four acre lawn and tend her flowers that she said required more care than babies. Mrs. Jones admired the wonders of nature and road trips, appreciated cars and was a fan of NASCAR car racing, hockey, NCAA and golf.
