Obituary

TULSA, OK: Clyde O. Porter, age 68, a former longtime resident of South Lowell, died Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

He was the husband of Jean C. (Gallant) Porter to whom he was married for 47 years.

Born in Clovis, New Mexico on December 14, 1935, he was the son of the late Clyde E. and Eula Mae (Gibson) Porter.

Mr. Porter was raised in Clovis, New Mexico. He attended Clovis schools and graduated from Clovis High School in 1953.

Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served during the Korean War in the 7th Patrol Squadron. During his military service, Mr. Porter repaired and provided maintenance to Naval Aircraft. He was awarded several decorations including the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an auto body mechanic by Jake’s Auto Body of Derry, NH.

Mr. Porter resided in Eucha, OK for the past 2 years. He previously lived in South Lowell for 25 years and attended St. Marie’s Parish.

He enjoyed many activities especially fishing, restoring antique cars, playing the guitar, country music and leather tooling.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter and son-in-law; Jean M. “Shelley” Carew and Arthur J “Arte” Carew, Jr. of Dracut; 1 son and 2 daughters-in-law; Michael J. Porter and his wife Kim M. (Paquette) Porter of Tewksbury and Kimberly G. (Taylor) Porter of Derry, NH; 1 sister; G. Joan Johnston of Eucha, OK; 8 grandchildren; Christine, Artie, and Adam all of Dracut, David, Ashley and Heidi all of Derry, NH and Jon and Abigail both of Tewksbury; also many aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, including his close friend and brother-in-law; Leonard Gallant of Chester, NH, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews.

Mr. Porter was the father of the late Clyde H. “Hank” Porter who died November 9, 1997

Calling hours Thursday from 5-9 p.m. at the FARMER & DEE FUNERAL HOME, 16 LEE ST., TEWKSBURY. Funeral Friday at 9:45 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Marie’s Church, Chamberlain St., Lowell. Interment at St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
