Mrs. Mamie S. Young
Augusta, GA – Mrs. Mamie Smith Young, 89, beloved wife of Mr. Clarence Young entered into rest on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Trinity Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Susan Gilbert officiating. Interment to follow in the Pierce Memorial Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Young was one of twelve children born to Quincy and Mamie Croom Smith. She and her husband Clarence shared 65 years of marriage. Mrs. Young was a graduate of the James Walker Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, NC. She worked for many years as a Registered Nurse with Dr.’s Boyd, Williams, and Oliver. Mrs. Young was a member of Pierce Memorial United Methodist Church for many years. She will be remembered for her unselfish care that she gave to so many throughout her life.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Young is survived by her two sons, Jim Young of Columbus, OH and Clarence Young and wife Kelly of Bluffton, SC; her brothers, Charles Smith and Fate Smith both of Kinston, NC; her sister, Hazel Broom of Cary, NC; and by her grandchildren, Stephen Young, Angela Blake and husband Scott, Trevor Young, and Amber Young.
Pallbearers will be Trevor Young, Stephen Young, Freddie Sanders, Jessie “Rusty” Sanders, Bill McGahee, and Scott Blake.

The family will receive friends at the funeral on Monday evening, April 25, 2011 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The family will also greet friends at a reception following the funeral services in the Pierce Memorial UMC fellowship hall.
