Obituary

SUDBURY: Stephen Bradley Abbott, 79, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at the MetroWest Medical Center following a long period of declining health.
He was born in Gardiner, Maine the son of the late Lois M. (Andrews) and E. Bradley Abbott. Steve attended the Troy, NY schools and graduated in 1954 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY with a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering. He later earned a Masters of Business Administration Degree from Northeastern University in Boston.
In 1955, Steve married Mary Lou Dixson of Greenwich, NY and joined the U.S. Navy, attending Officers Candidate School in Providence, RI where he earned the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade He served as a meteorologist until his discharge. Steve was hired by Chicago Bridge & Iron Company where he worked for 30 years. He was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Capitol Planning and Operations in Boston for the next 12 years.
Steve is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Dixson) Abbott of Sudbury; son David B. Abbott of Sudbury, son Mark L. Abbott and his wife Lisabeth Ostar of Hudson, daughter Suzanne M. Carlson and her husband Kurt W. Carlson of Medfield. He is also survived by his grandchildren Krista M Carlson and Austin K Carlson of Medfield, and his sisters Cora L. Cramer and her husband Alvah R. Cramer of Newtown, CT, and Ethel A. Abbott of Oneida, NY.
On Monday, April 25, 2011 a visiting hour will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the Sudbury United Methodist Church, 251 Old Sudbury Rd (Rte 27), Sudbury followed by his funeral service at 11:00 am. A reception will follow at 12:00 noon at the church.
Interment will take place in the Abbott family lot in Wadsworth Cemetery, Concord Rd, Sudbury at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donation in Steve’s memory be sent to the Sudbury United Methodist Church.
