BARTON, VT: Mary O. “Rochelle” (Fournier) Thurston, 93, formerly of Gloucester, passed away April 17, 2011 in Barton, Vermont. She was the wife of the late Robert S. Bernard, MD and the late Norman H. Thurston.
Born in Shirley, Massachusetts on November 7, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Olivine (Dupre) Fournier. She was a graduate of the Fitchburg High School class of 1935.
In her earlier years she was employed by the former Empire Clothing Store. Her hobbies included fashion design and sewing. She was also an excellent cook.
She is survived by her daughter, Lauretta Jane McConnell of Taunton; her son, George W. Thurston, III and his wife, Deborah of St. Johnsbury, VT; grandchildren, Leonard McConnell, Rochelle McConnell both of Boston, David McConnell of Revere, and Phebe Thurston Ball and her husband, Joseph of Lunenburg,VT; great-grandchildren, Lucianna Violet Ball and Starr McConnell; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Fournier of Mesa, AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Irene Fournier, Laurette Funaiole, Ralph Fournier, Evelyn Condrot, and Rita Funaiole.
A graveside committal service will be held next Saturday morning, April 30th in the Beechbrook Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Memorial calling hours will be at the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester, on Saturday afternoon from 2 – 4 p.m.
