Obituary

Doris Fleming Thompson, 88, died Wednesday, April 20, 2011 in the Kaplan Family Hospice House. She was the wife of John P. Thompson, Sr., with whom she shared 67 years of marriage.
Born in Louisville, KY on May 27, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Julian and Marie (Atherton) Fleming. She was raised and educated in Louisville and was a graduate of the University of Louisville, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority.
A longtime Swampscott resident where she had been a member of the First Church of Swampscott Congregational for sixty years, she had also resided in Marblehead and most recently Salem for many years.
She was a member of the Tedesco Country Club in Marblehead and the Cypress Run Golf Club in Tarpon Springs, FL.
In addition to her loving husband, she leaves her children, Sally Thompson and her husband George Gately of Peabody, Phil Thompson and his wife Linda of Peabody, Mark Thompson and his wife Laurel of Swampscott, and Randy Thompson and his wife Mary of Sun City Center, FL, seven grandchildren, Glen, Keith, Nella, and Becky Thompson, Susan Hansen, Nancy Maloney, and William Gately, and five great-grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Kevin Gately and sister of the late Jay Fleming and Hibby Embry.
Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, Apr. 23, 2011 at 11AM in the First Church of Swampscott Congregational, 40 Monument St., Swampscott. Burial will follow in Swampscott Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are Friday from 5-8PM in C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers Square. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kevin J.
