Joseph F. Kalacznik, 90

Dateline: Taunton, MA

Joseph F. Kalacznik, 90, of Taunton, a former longtime Norton resident, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday April 20, 2011 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of the late Esther A. (DeAvellar) Kalacznik who died on May 29, 1978.
Born in Taunton, MA on March 17, 1921 he was a dear son of the late Theodore and Magdalena (Burel) Kalacznik.
Joe grew up and was educated in Taunton, and was a 1939 graduate of Taunton High School. He furthered his education and was a graduate of the Bentley School of Accounting and had also pursued courses in Business Administration at the University of Rhode Island.
Joseph proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Air Corps from 1942-1946 as a radio mechanic and radio operator in the North Atlantic Wing.
Prior to retiring in 1985, Mr. Kalacznik worked as an accountant for St. Regis Paper Co. in Attleboro, Verde Shoe in Stoughton and Electro Switch of Weymouth. After his retirement, he worked as a telemarketer supervisor for Equi-Star.
An active communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton for the past 60 years, Joe worked on the committee that established the Bingo Program, was a former member of the Church Council, Building Committee for the Parish Center, Catholic Charities and the Holy Name Society. He had been a member of the church choir since joining the parish and was a member of the New Life Funeral Choir.
His grandchildren, whom he was fondly known as Jagu ,were his pride and joy. They brought him many years of memories as he shared lovingly in their accomplishments and in their lives.
Mr. Kalacznik enjoyed all sports, professional and high school, and was an avid golfer. He had made his home in Taunton for the past 23 years.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Sandra L. Ross and her husband Christopher of Norton and Jeanne M. Pratt of Newburyport. He was the cherished grandfather of Magdalena Ross and Benjamin Ross both of Norton, and the dear brother of Paul Kalacznik and his wife Eileen of North Wales, PA, Fred Kalacznik and Anne Kalacznik both of Taunton and the late Lode Kalacznik. He is also survived by his niece Andrea Kalacznik of Lansdale, PA, niece Dr. Monica Kalacznik and her husband Steve Rappaport and grand nephew Ethan of Norwalk, CT and niece Margaret Kalacznik of Maryland.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday April 25th at 9:30 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St.(Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday April 24th from 4-7 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Joseph’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to St. Mary’s Church, 1 Power St., Norton, MA 02766.
