Obituary

WINDHAM, NH – Richard T. Whelan 78 of Windham, NH died Wednesday April 13, 2011 at his home.

Born in Newton, MA he was the son of Thomas and Sarah (Durkin) Whelan. He attended Newton North High School and was a graduate of Boston College with the Class of 1959 where he earned his bachelors degree. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged from service in 1954. Before his retirement he was employed at Sanders Electronics in Nashua, NH. He was a parishioner at St. Matthews Church in Windham where is was actively involved with the Grieving Group. He was also a member of the D.A.V. W.T. Barron Chapter 25 and also the VFW Post # 8546 in Salem, NH. He enjoyed writing, reading, sports, the outdoors and spending time at his home with his family.

The widower of Barbara A. (Doherty) Whelan. He is survived by his children Richard Whelan, Jr. and his wife Holly Heinlein of Windham, NH, Kathleen M. Young and her husband Peter J. of Derry, NH, John J. Whelan and his wife Cheryl Ann of Raleigh, NC, Mary C. Marangelo and her husband Steven of Londonderry, NH and Christine A. Whelan of Topsfield, MA.
Sister Carol Hadro and her husband Edward of Newton, MA.
Grandchildren Kirk Whelan, Julie and Jordan Young, Erin L. Whelan, Thomas J, Whelan and Jessica K. Latsha.
He also leaves his brother-in-law James Mahoney of Madison, CT.
Several nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his son Thomas J. and his daughter Mary C. Richard was also pre-deceased by his brothers and sisters, Thomas F., James, Robert, Joseph, Paul, Mary, Margaret and Frances.

ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Monday April 25, 2011 from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday April 26, 2011 at 10:00a.m. in St. Matthews Church in Windham, NH with burial to follow in the Cemetery on the Hill also in Windham, NH.
