Harry K. Wetherbee, Jr., 79 of Derry, formerly of Pelham, died Tuesday April 19, 2011 at home, surrounded by family. He was born April 10, 1932 in Nashua, NH and was the son of the late Harry K., Sr. and Elva (Clements) Wetherbee. He was raised in Nashua and Lowell, MA, and was a graduate of Lowell High School. Mr. Wetherbee was a resident of Pelham, NH for 29 years, prior to moving to Derry 5 years ago.
Harry was employed with the Boston & Maine Railroad as a train dispatcher, and retired as Trains Operations Manager in 1994, after 42 years of service. He was a long time HAM radio operator, and member of the American Radio Relay League, he also enjoyed repairing computers, which he then donated to needy children. He was an avid bridge and chess player, In his youth, he played the violin and harmonica, and was a published poet. He will long be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family, and loved to take long walks with his dog “Lady”.
Members of the family include his wife of 61 years, June (Anderson) Wetherbee, two sons, Harry K. Wetherbee, III, John W. Wetherbee and his late wife Tammy, three daughters, Jean Wetherbee, Judith Braman and her husband James, and Joan Westcott and her husband Paul, 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Calling hours were held Thursday from 9am to 11am at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Derry. A funeral service followed at 11am in the funeral home. The burial was in the Lee Hill Cemetery in Lee, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701.
