Obituary

WORCESTER-Margaret P. “Peg” (Harvey) Murphy, 83 of 39 First Street, died Thursday, January 22nd in St. Vincent Hospital. Her husband Joseph O. Murphy died in 2002. She leaves a sister Elizabeth Somers of Stafford, CT and many nephew and nieces.

She was born in Worcester the daughter of Hugh and Margaret (Murray) Harvey. Mrs. Murphy was a graduate of South High School and St. Vincent School of Nursing. She was a WW 2 Army Air Corps veteran. Mrs. Murphy had been a private duty registered nurse and had also worked for 20 years at Rutland Heights Veterans Hospital and for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. She was a member of St. Paul’s Cathedral parish, the Catholic Nurses Association, St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing Alumna Association, the Providence Guild, the American Legion and the New England Association of Catholic Nurses.

The funeral is Monday, January 26th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Paul’s Cathedral, 15 Chatham Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday, January 25th from 3:00 until 5:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Cathedral Outreach Program, 38 High Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
