Lydia “Biddy” Elizabeth Smith Bruce, 82, of Tifton died Friday, April 15, 2011, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Dr. Billy Southerland and Thomas Bruce will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 18, 2011, from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Bruce was born on June 27, 1928 in Tift County and was the daughter of Henry Luther Smith and Maussouri Edna Todd Smith, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bobby L. Bruce; a son-in-law, James Meads; four brothers; and five sisters. She was retired from TCDI and then worked at the Georgia Agrirama. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Tifton.
Mrs. Bruce is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Starla Bruce of Doles, Joey and Sherry Bruce of Tifton and Stan and Debbie Bruce of Tifton; two daughters and one son-in-law, Laverne and John Cook of Irwinville and Beth Bruce of Tifton; one sister, Joyce Bamsch of Plano, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
