Obituary

Robert W. Kard (of Whitman), most beloved and treasured husband of Edeltraud “Trudie” (Rackl) Kard, passed away on Wednesday, April 13th, surrounded by his loving family in the Massachusetts General Hospital, after a sudden and brief illness. He was 72.

Robert was born in Melrose, and was the son of the late Anthony and Rose (Wenzel) Kard.

Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army, which he thought of as his second family; he loved the military and its values. He honorably served on active duty from June 1954 to July of 1957 as an SPC3.

He worked as a carpenter, sprayer, and finisher for Wood-Hu Kitchens in West Bridgewater for over 30 years.

Robert was a member of the Whitman VFW Post #697 and the Hanson Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed gardening, carpentry, music, and computer games; in particular, “Call of Duty” (screen name Blackace32). His primary and most important priority was helping and spending time with his loving family.

In addition to his wife “Trudie”, Robert is survived by his son, Robert D. Kard, and his wife Linda (Zipeto) Kard of Brockton; his daughter Doreen R. Delmonico and her husband Ronald of Whitman; his grandchildren, Nicole A. Delmonico and Tara E. Delmonico of Whitman, as well as Robert D. Kard, Jr., of Brockton. He is also survived by his first great-granddaughter, Ellie R. V. Delmonico of Whitman. Robert has 2 surviving siblings; his most beloved sister, Francis (Kard) Kelly, of California, and his brother David Kard, of Randolph.

His visitation will be held on Tuesday April 19th from 5:00-7:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, located at 666 Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary), Whitman. Funeral services will be on Wednesday April 20th at 8:15 from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, followed by a funeral mass at 9:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans National Cemetery in Bourne at 11:30AM.
